Went to murlough bay yesterday with julie and Paul Brennan and had a really enjoyable if not the most productive bouldering session. This is only the 3rd time I'd bouldered this year as after spending to much time with the Dunlops I forgot how much fun bouldering was :).
I was a bit disappointed not to get up eat it left 7a again, though not for want of trying, which comfirms to me that I'm a wee bit weaker than last year but thankfully managed Moonman direct 6c easily enough. Cheers to Paul Swail for putting up a problem I can actually do! Good effort to Paul b who did do Eat it Left but thankfully found moon man direct tricky even though it's definitely easier than La Marie Rose :)
I was also fortunate enough to finally see the mighty Michael Duffy in the flesh and was pretty amazed (but not surprised) to see how easily he pissed up Homeward Bound 7b+.My jaw is still on the floor. I was lucky enough to witness Eddie 'the beast' barbour crush this problem a few years ago but he looked as if he was trying a wee bit where as Michael seemed to float up it. Very impressive indeed. Also impressive was seeing a real life beastmaker. Felt stonger just looking at it.
I don't think I'll be wasting much effort on this problem in the near future as I think it's a problem thats for either lanks or very strong short arses of which I am neither.Paul B might be a contender though to tick this brilliant problem, which was put up by James Pearson.
I'm not about to give up my day job as a shite climber to become a shite boulderer but after being up there I'm pretty psyched, depending on work and study commitments, to tick off the following this winter:
Eat it left 7a (again!)
Chubbs patterson 7a
Fiddy the post office cat 6c
when molsey met melkor 6c\7a
Stop Feeding It 6c+?
Carbide 7a
That would take a fair wee bit of effort on my part and its possible I could end up not managing any of these but also I could do them all or some of them, which is exciting so we shall see. Just need a wee bit of luck to do them but its well worth the effort because they're all really good.
Cheers to all who where there yesterday for an enjoyable day out.
